NORTON

Happy New Year to all of you.
I have been away for 6 weeks and have driven 10,000kms across Australia and back.
Since I have returned I am having a Norton problem.
It says I have one item needing fixed. When I click on fix now, it doesn't matter how long I wait it never fixes.
I can't access any internet connections unless I disable Norton, as I have done just now.
Is there a way to correct this?

Thanks wini

Happy New Year Wini,

I would hate the thought of having to come home to Norton after a nice holiday. I got rid of Norton and that Scottish AV program years ago and have been using AVG ever since for Anti Virus and Zone Alarm for a firewall. Both are nice, easy to use, uncomplicated, free programs and are all most people need.

I found this little snippet while looking for information.

“However, while waiting for inspiration from the ether, I noticed a little Norton AV balloon that said "One item is affecting your status: Fix Now?"
Like a sucker I clicked yes. Can you hear that whirring in the distance? It's the hard disk churning itself up while Norton AV scans 6 million files for a virus. Look, you didn't say that was what you were going to do! You promised me a painless, quick solution to whatever fictitious problem you thought you'd detected. Stop it. Please stop it. Please.”

Someone who uses Norton might be able to give you some clues but in the meantime there’s a recent discussion on a fairly reputable forum about a problem which may be similar to yours.

It might be a good idea to check exactly what version of Norton you have. If you can’t see it displayed try clicking the Help menu at the top of the Norton window and click “about”.

In the meantime, if you have Norton temporarily disabled, it would be best to restrict use of the internet to what is absolutely essential, especially if Norton is also controlling your firewall, and be especially careful with incoming email.

Once you get the problem cleared up do a full virus and spyware scan to make sure nothing has snuck in under the Radar.

All the best,
Alan

Thanks Currie,
I have read the article and will act on it.
There is nothing more frustrating than sitting down and spending an hour trying to get anywhere.
I am using my old computer tonight.
