Hello Everyone,
I've had a most frustrating night on SP, kept having errors etc etc but I finally managed to get the image I wanted, at great expense... & now I can not make out the writing of the occupations or maiden surnames & have no idea if the image can be adjusted/improved or not.
At least I'm pretty sure I have the right fellow which makes it all worthwhile.
Is there someway I can send this image to someone that is good at deciphering please... any volunteers?
Regards, Vicki
McIvor/Alexander Marriage - help reading image please

Hi Vickory
If you upload it to the gallery portion of TalkingScot any number of folks would be happy to have a look at it. If the quality is really that dire then by all means send a contact form to SP and ask for a better image to be sent to you. Contact form is a clickable link on the main webpapge of SP just about underneath the scenic image of the castle....just follow the prompts to explain your difficulties. Don't be shy....it happens all the time!!
Best wishes
Jean

Hello Merlot & Jean,
Thanks for the instructions Merlot, I've managed to upload the image.
It is probably no worse an image than any other I have from SP, I just am very poor at reading the handwriting... especially after an all night, no sleep, session arguing with the errors.

Thanks for the heads up on the location of the Contact form Jean, I may well use that after I have a sleep... too cranky with SP to write to them now
Regards, Vicki

Thank you Andrew, Anne & Sarah,
Well I feel brighter now, 4 hours sleep does wonders... still can't read the writing myself but now that I know what it says that doesn't really matter.
Back to the searching for me... perhaps I'll find a half sister or brother for my Elizabeth McIvor.
Thanks again
Regards, Vicki

Hello Vicki,
In your post you mentioned errors, great expense and crankiness in obtaining that one image.
I don’t mean to intrude on your privacy but I was wondering just how many credits you had to spend to obtain that one specific image. And of that number how many credits were used up on searches and how many on images. What were the main difficulties you were having in getting the correct one. Were you finding, for example, that the search results delivered did not give you sufficient information to identify the correct marriage.
It’s just that I feel that such feedback is important, as I am sure it would be to ScotlandsPeople. Surely they would not want you to be spending any more than a reasonable amount on something as basic as a digital copy of a Register page, especially one that is not perfect.
If you don’t wish to reply just ignore my post.
All the best,
Alan

Hello Allan,
I find using SP very frustrating & when I'm overtired it makes me cranky when it returns errors so I have to re log in... so the cranky is my fault for always searching in the middle of the night not SP's.
The frustrating is because I know the info must be there but I rarely find anything I need... which is probably my lack of experience searching too.
I always try the exact name first & then use soundex next if it has said no matches... then there are umpteen pages to view & when I find it the name is exact anyway so I don't understand why it doesn't show on the first search. So what happens is I don't use soundex again so rarely find anything & don't use the site as often as I should/would.
I think I'd far prefer to search for free & pay more for an image when I find what I want, though might not be as profitable for SP that way.
What it did last night was eat 1 credit each time it had an error because I asked to view the page so I could see the results of the search, then it gave an error message but when I logged back in the page was not in the list of previous searches... so it stole a credit for each error.
I don't know if that is a problem with SP or a problem between SP & my satellite internet connection.
The image when I got to it was 6 credits so I suppose that is 1 for opening it & 5 for the image.
It's only a few $'s really, it just annoyed me at the time... I'm over it, especially because the image has some new information for me to work with so was worth the effort.
Regards, Vicki
