Hi Jake
The dates put your Mr Mitchell outside our guidelines, I'm afraid. See:
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6601

We can't help with possibly living persons, but we do have some links which you may find useful:

Best of luck with your search.

Hello Lesley,

I was wondering whether it would, in this sort of situation, be better just to X out the name(s) of the possibly living person(s) rather than remove all the content. That way everyone can get a better understanding of what is not permitted. Very few people are going to follow the links provided and probably most (including myself) will be left slightly bewildered.

All the best,
Alan

My reference to living persons was intended only to see if I could find a link BACK.
I'd no intention of looking for persons currently alive, I've no interest there as I thought I'd made clear in the post, other than seeking the name on a family tree.
The date of birth of 1910 precludes any searches to make the initial link back to a 1901 census, then back again to 1891 and beyond, which IS where my interest lay.

I'll not post in regard to this topic again.

Hi Jake

As the particular person you were seeking had died over 30 years ago and as the date of birth was only several years past our guideline date I took the decision to leave the post in place so that you might have received some help with your quest. However, it seems you have now removed the text of your post.

If you are looking for a birth past the dates outlined in our TS guidelines then there are several courses of action open to you:
Contact GROS directly, see: http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... flet2.html
Wait until the modern indexes come online, (which should not be long now) and then order the certificate
Visit Edinburgh or Park Circus to view a post 1907 birth
Hire a researcher to visit one of the above locations on your behalf to find out the information you need to move backwards.

Hope this is of some help.

Best wishes
Lesley

Sorry Lesley,

When I read the above I must have only noticed the larger print and thought you had removed the post. I’ll have to sit closer to the screen or maybe hose down my spectacles.

Apologies again and all the best,
Alan
