Post by Keatley » Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:46 pm

William Hutcheson occupation piermaster.

Cause of death fracture of skull through falling on pier.
What does it say underneath this?

Is there anywhere online I can find more about this death?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

I read this and it says "per verdict of jury". There must have been an inquest into his death.

Hope this helps

All the best Sheilah

Hi Paul

I agree that it's 'per verdict of jury'. It might be worth trying the papers. You can get The Scotman on line (subscription required) or you might try the local paper - I think it's the Greenock Telegraph.

Searching Ross - Lochwinnoch & Eaglesham, Renfrewshire; Glasgow; Glover - Paisley; Macadam - Glasgow.

Hi Paul
There is not an "inquest" in Scotland - they are known as a Fatal Accident Enquiry. There is more info on TS about FAIs here:
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4308
And on the NAS site it says:
Fatal accident inquiries
In Scotland Fatal Accident Inquiries have been held since 1895 into fatal accidents in the workplace and cases of sudden death where public interest was involved, but not into deaths by suicide. Not all records of sheriff court fatal accident inquiries have survived. The records of each inquiry are gradually being individually listed as part of a recataloguing programme.
