Frederick Reid - Aberdeenshire

Post by libbyreid » Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:14 pm

Hello

I'm looking for relatives of my great grandfather Frederick Reid. I know very little about him. He never married. Possibly died in mid-1980s. Only had one child, also Frederick Reid <dob & place removed - possibly living person>

My grandfather birth certificate states that his father was a farm servant.

There is possibly a link to an 'Ella'. Maybe a sister or sister-in-law. But this could be on my grandfathers mothers side (Marjory McPherson McRae). And also my dad seems to think we have family in Scotland with the surname Legg. Again this could be on the McRae side.

Is anyone able to help me with infomation or suggestions?

Hi Libby
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D

Searching for Reids is never the easiest job as there are quite a lot of them, but have you tried any searches at Scotlands People yet? (link at top of page) You may be able to find some of what you are looking for there.

Best wishes
Lesley

Unfortunately, I have. Like you say the name 'Reid' is very common, and I don't have a lot to go on. I've found three possible Fred/Frederick Reids in Aberdeen in the 1901 census aged 4, 5 and 13. But can't find anything to link any of them to my family other than the name.

Some of my infomation regarding my grandfather Frederick Reid (only son of the Frederick Reid I am searching) due to him possibly being alive. He was born in 1921 in Turriff, Aberdeen. I feel this is important information to include.
He died in 1986 in Essex, England, and is definitely not living. My search would have been a lot easier if he was alive.

Hi Libby
I'm looking for relatives of my great grandfather Frederick Reid.
Although we are happy to help you with tracing your family back in time, if you are looking for possibly living relatives, I'm afraid we cannot help with that.

Best wishes
Lesley

No, I'm looking for my Great Grandfathers generation or further back. Anything that will help me trace my family name back. And having been searching for almost 10 years have decided my only chance is appealling to people that may have my great grandfather in their tree.
