Hi Iluvu2,

There is a marriage in 1861 at Ross and Cromarty, in the Parish of Lochs for John Kennedy and Isobella Smith. You can download the record at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Kind Regards,

Ina

Thanks for that Ina but sorry to say thats not them Isabella was married to John Smith in 1861, my Gt grandfather was born in 1862,she was married to John Kennedy when her son my Gt grandpa married in Airdrie in 1883.Isabella was Irish as my GT grandad so was John Kennedy. My prob is that John Kennedy was living in Forrest St Airdrie,at the time my Gt Grandpa was growing up in N Ireland,I think Isabella was a widow and he must have went back to Ireland and married her after his wife died but I cannot find a record of the marriage in either Scotland or N Ireland, she died in Airdrie in 1902, Many Thanks for your patience :)

Have you considered that they didn't get 'married' but lived together as man and wife. Just another theory.
Always looking for rellies near and far, especially Toy(e), Berwick, Tobin, Quinn, Gallagher, Pope and Anderson

If Isabella and John Kennedy were married in Scotland it would probably be registered under her maiden name. Have you tried searching for that?

How is this for an enigma, my gt,gt granny Isabella Smith was born in N. Ireland in 1826,she was listed on her sons marriage cert.as Isabella Kennedy previously Jones then Smith M/S Smith. My gt grandfather her son was called John Smith and his fathers name is on his birth cert so he is not illigitimate , I think she was married to Jones 1st,then Smith and finally to Kennedy her 2nd husband having the same surname as her maiden name [Smith] and to make matters worse her father was called John as was her 2nd husband then her son 3 John Smiths, now hows that for a headache anyone got an anadin
