Edinburgh streets - HEAD of Pleasance - FOOT of West Bow

Post by stepmars » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:30 pm

Would someone tell me which end of Pleasance is the head and likewise which is the foot of West Bow in Edinburgh. I can't tell from looking at maps.

Would such descriptions have referred to a specific building or group of buildings or would they refer to the general area at the beginning or end of the streets?

Thanks,
Steve Marshall

Hi Steve,

Assuming these terms refer to the top of the hill, and the bottom of the hill, respectively then:

head of The Pleasance - its south end, where its name changes to St Leonard's Street.

foot of West Bow - its south end, junction with The Grassmarket and The Cowgate.

All the best,
