I have only just started this so am quite pleased with myself on this one.
James Ritchie my gggrandfather b 1835 parents John & Elizabeth Butters, have the birth notice OPR and Marriage cert 1856, but no mother on death cert
John and Elizabeth married in 1828 Fife SP, and they show on a 1841 census with 4 children, William, James, George and Ann so far so good. Now the fun starts. John died in 1841 (Fife Death Index) so where is Elizabeth? can't find her.
I started to look for George and found a marriage and death cert, mother on marriage is Butters, death cert says Buttercase, oh dear thought I had her parents, back to children.
No sign of William but there is an Ann Ritchie on 1851 census staying with mother Elizabeth Lindsay ok she married again.
Of to family search and hey presto there she is marrying John Lindsay 1855, of to Scotlands People to get marrriage cert just to confirm.
ok where is all the information that is supposed to be on 1855 cert.
All it tells me is that she was a widow with four children, birth place and parents but no mention of first husband, back to drawing board.
Started to look for death cert of Elizabeth Lindsay found it but no mention of first husband, maybe I was barking up wrong tree.
So back to children look for William's death no luck, as a last desperate measure I took a chance on Ann not marrying and hey presto there she was 1855 death was I going to be lucky this time on info,
I was all the details were there unfortunatley cause of death not easy to read something along the lines clothing caught in machinery at mill.
But it confirmed what I had been hunting for Eilzabeth Buttercase was married to John Ritchie, she had 7 siblings 4 named buttercase born before 1800 4 named butters born after 1800 how to confuse a beginner.
Better stop now have got visitors, see you all soon but with paterson problems
Cheers
Eileen
