Can't Open Attachment

Post by sheilajim » Tue May 06, 2008 1:16 am

Hi All

I was sent an attachment (a picture), that I can't open up. I usually don't have a problem opening up pictures, when they come as attachments, but I have with this one.
Even my computer help, from India, couldn't help me open it up. She said that it was a .opd file, and that the reason I can't open it up is because I don't have the software. She wasn't able to tell me what software I would need. :(

Does anyone know what .opd files are? Can I get some software to open this file up?

Regards
Sheila

Hello Sheila
I'm not sure how to open this file. Apparently Kinkos sometimes scans
photos in this format.
If anyone is ever going to have Kinkos scan something for them it is best to have them make it a .tiff or .pdf so anyone can read it with no special software.

I read on a forum http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=9287
that a graphic converter program might be able to open it for you.

Best luck, maybe someone else can tell you more when they wake up.

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for your input. If it was sent by Kinko's that would explain why I can't open it. I will look for the graphic converter.

Thanks again :)

Hi Sheila
I wonder if you asked nicely :D Kinkos would send it to you in a
different format. After all, they must want to keep their customers happy.
Might be worth e mailing it back to them and asking.

Hello Sheila,

If you right click the icon and click on properties you may get more information about it. Could it be an Omnipage Document?

Sometimes these unopenable photographs are just ordinary JPGs, TIFs or whatever with the file extension changed to something else. You could try opening the file in Irfanview. The program will usually identify such situations and correct the problem (after first asking politely if that’s okay).

Irfanview can be a very handy program to have for a whole lot of reasons and is available from your usual download location.

Hi Sheila,

I’m curious, were you able to open the .opd file, if so, how did you do it?

Hi Bob,
I wasn't able to open it up, but Sarah did it for me. I will have to ask her how it was done. If it involved some special software, it might be worth my while to buy it, in case I have that problem again.

Sheila

Hi all,
I used Graphic Converter, by Lemke software. I believe a free version can be downloaded to try out. It is a brilliant program but might be only for Mac computers :?:

Cheers,
Sarah, who sent the image to Sheila from deep in the woods in Idaho, using a cell phone as a modem :D -- quite pleased with that new system, except when it rains :(
