Blank image on findmypast

Post by speleobat2 » Thu May 29, 2008 9:50 pm

Hi everyone,

I bought a subscription to findmypast today because I want to check out several passenger ship records.

Problem: When I click on view for an image, nothing comes up. If I click on view for the transcription everything is fine.

I have done the easy stuff: change the pop up blocker etc. I downloaded Adobe Flash Player and it is supposed to be working. My subscription is a Voyager which is supposed to allow unlimited access to the records and images for the passenger lists.

Before I go on to downloading an alternate brower (mozilla or foxfire) or messing with my anti-virus program, does anyone have any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else and how did you fix the problem?

Hi Carol
Is Find My Past not one of those sites that you need to download the djvu viewer for? Hmm. maybe it is optional to view things that way as I see from their technical FAQ on the site here, but not sure if this will be of any help.

Best wishes

Yes you do need the djvu viewer.
After i have downloaded an image and saved it to my pc and want to view it again i have to right click the image file and chose to open it with Internet Explorer - if thats any help to you later on.

Hi Lesley,

I downloaded the djvu viewer too, but I think that it is mostly for improving images once you already have them. My problem is that the images aren't coming up at all. I get the header above telling me which one I'm looking at, then the rest of the page stays blank!

Could be an incompatiblity problem with Windows Vista. That may be why they suggest downloading either Mozilla or Foxfire.

Thanks,

Carol :)

Must have been sunspots or a glitch somewhere. I was just looking at transcripts and decided to try the view button one more time. It worked!

Now I just wish the records had a little more information. I found out that Miss Clerihew was sailing to the Canary Islands and that she was Scottish, but no clues as to which Miss Clerihew she was--no first name, no residence, no place of birth.
