What's an Illuminated Address?.....

Post by camweh » Mon Jul 04, 2005 11:18 am

I'm in the process of transcribing the "Herald Files". Snippets from a hundred years ago from the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald. I've come across a few like the one below. Does anyone know what an illuminated address is :?:

"An illuminated address was presented to Messrs Arthur Guthrie & Sons, publishers, Ardrossan, on the occasion of the Jubilee of the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald".

Thanks for that David. Seems that expression was used a lot around 1900.
