I am trying to track descendants of Catherine Ross MacGregor (2nd daughter of Alastair MacGregor of Edinburgh) who married James McNab Howie in December 1889. (James is a brother of my great-grandfther, Peter Howie). Catherine had a sister, Martha, who lived at 73 Falcon Road Edinburgh, and was married to Mr John Cameron Fraser. Catherine's usual address was 46 Polworth Gardens, Edinburgh. She died in Jan 1 1919. James and Catherine had two sons, John Alexander, and Laurence James Howie - both mentioned in her will (registered 15th November 1918). Laurence James Howie (age 40) married Jean (Sheena)Bell (age 43) on 18th August 1934. He died on 25th November 1956. Sheena died on 16th May 1966. Sheena resided with her sister, Mrs John H. McKie before she died. I would also like to know if the houses at these addresses still exist. I would also like to find out where Catherine is buried, and a photo of the grave if available. She and her husband lived for a while in Chang-pu, China, where James died in 1904. Mrs. Howie (Catherine) returned on P&O Steamer 'Manilla' from Hong Kong in 1904. Laurence James Howie was a Medical Officer of Health in the Lothians.
If anyone knows of any descendants of this side of my family I would love to hear from you.

Hi Catiemac,
I was brought up in watson crescent and temple park crescent, Polwarth Gardens is just round the corner. I looked up number 46 on google map and it looks as of its just past John Kerr (church) so it is possibly still there.
My sister is still living in the area so if you don't mind waiting a wee while I will ask her to check for you. Unless someone else knows of course.
all the best
Helen

Hi Robyn & Helen,
46 Polwarth Gardens is the tenement building next door to where the John Ker Memorial Church used to stand (replaced by sheltered housing John Ker Court in 1984).
73 Falcon Road - a mile or so from Polwarth Gardens is also still standing, also a tenement building.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew and Helen,
Thank you for this information - I wonder if it's possible to get photos of these addresses, and forward them to my personal e-mail address so I can see the places for myself? It would be great if this were possible. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
