Does any one know of a place called "BOWERLAND"? My ancester James McMichan is listed in the Old Parochial Register of Caerlaverock Parish as having died Oct 30,1833 age 79 at Bowerland.
I have not had any success in finding this place. Not another single person is listed in the burial booklet as being from this place. His wife
Elizabeth Davidson died Feb 3,1833 at Greenmill - her son John was living there....but where is Bowerland???
James McMichan is listed as a laborer from Kelltown on three of his children's birth records in the OPR's.
Could this be a transciption error? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ruth

Hi Ruth,
I think Bowerland is a spelling variation of the place shown as Boreland on most maps, and Borland on a few of the early maps.

Andrew,
Thanks you so much for replying and for including the map. This place would sure make sense as I see it is near kelltown(kelton). It is always such a problem trying to figure out if these errors are transcription problems when the work was copied.....I'm sure they are very hard to read. I do appreciate your quick response. This helps me to feel certain that this James is the correct one for my family.
Thanks
