James Robertson ( Buckhaven; Rutherglen )

Post by misty » Mon Aug 04, 2008 5:00 pm

I am looking for any information on my paternal grandfather James Robertson and his ancestors.
As far as we know he was born about 1900 in or around Buckhaven, Fife.
He was living in Rutherglen in the late 1920's early 1930's. His occupation is shown as General Labourer.

He had a son who was born in Methil, Buckhaven, with Isabella McCue.
James and Isabella never married.

There are several James Robertson's who fit dates in both Buckhaven and Rutherglen Registries and it could be one of several.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Angela

Your post has been edited. We regret that we cannot help with queries about any persons who might still be living, or in tracing living family members.

Please see The Essential Reading thread http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6601

Your father's birth registry should state the occupation of his father and this may aid you in tracing back to your grandfather. If you do not have a copy of your father's birth registration, you may find it on ScotlandsPeople http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Frances

Hello Angela:

My apologies for having edited your post with regard to possible living persons. I should have moved your post to Quarantine until I consulted with other members of the team about my concerns, rather than editing it.

My haste and lack of judgement is not a very good welcome for a new member.

I hope that someone will be able to assist you with your query and that you find the correct James.

Sincerely,
Frances

Hi Angela,

Welcome to TalkingScot. [scotland-flag]

I have a couple of those myself where I can't get any leads on the fathers' family, but I wonder if there would have been any mention in the Kirk Session or poor records...just a thought that might be worth also looking into! :?

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Angela,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]

The only James Robertson I can see born 1900 in Buckhaven who appears in the 1901 census is this one (there is none born in Rutherglen):

1901
14 Deass Square, Wemyss, Buckhaven, Fifeshire
James Robertson, 28, Head, born Buckhaven, Fifeshire, Coal Miner Hewer
Mary Robertson, 25, Wife, born Buckhaven, Fifeshire
James Robertson, 1, Son, born Buckhaven, Fifeshire
Mary Robertson, 3 mos, Daur, born Buckhaven, Fifeshire

It's a start, anyway.

All the best,
Sarah

Hello Angela,

Do you have your grandfather’s death certificate or are you looking for that as well. If you have the certificate did it contain any useful information or were the parents unknown.
