Photgraphs

Post by wini » Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:09 pm

I downloaded some photgraphs from my husbands little Nikon camera using Picture Project, which is the software that comes with the camers. I want to get him to use Irfanvview to edit them but some how or other I can't open in Irfanview from PP. What am I doing wrong.
When I have downloaded from my Canon, I usually get an open with option.
Does this makle any sense?
Advice please.

Hello Wini,

I just use the built-in Scanner and Camera wizard that comes with XP to download pictures from my camera. I didn’t install the software that came with the camera because I didn’t have a use for any of it. I think when I first plugged it in it wanted a driver and that was the only thing I used from the CD. Once they are downloaded to a folder I use either the picture and fax viewer to look at them and PhotoPaint to edit them but Irfanview gets plenty of use as well.

On the Irfanview Help under the Index tab you’ll see “Acquire” and “Select Twain Source” The Twain source is the Camera and you have to select that before you can acquire the pictures. The camera probably wont show up on the Twain list unless it is plugged into the computer. The procedures are explained there.

I’m not sure if this will help but if you double click My Computer while your camera is plugged in you should see your camera listed with the Hard Drives etc. Right click the Camera icon and select properties. On the events tab you’ll see a device connected event and a choice of actions for that connection event. You’ll see the program currently being used when you connect. You can change it to another program listed but Irfanview may not be listed and if it isn’t I’m not sure you can do anything about it. I think there’s an open with option available there so maybe if you tick that box Irfanview might come up on the open with list like with the other camera.

But your camera might have options that are different to mine.

Hope I'm reading the problem correctly and hope this works,
Alan

Thanks Alan,

will try that.
I see I have an option to download to CD, maybe I could do that and then
use Irfanview.
I think the photgraphs have been deleted from the camera.

Solved my problem Alan,
Transferred from Picture Project to My Pictures and then could open them in Irfanview.
May be a long way around, but it works.
