photo software

Does anyone have a suggestion for software (not too expensive!!) for maniplulating photographs prior to printing them out.

what i would also like in this program is a facility which would allow me to print several different photos on the same sheet of paper, rather than 2, 3, or 4 of the same photograph.

i'm sure I used to have a trial version of one or shareware or something, but in changing computers I seem to have lost it.

I use ACDSee which I 'think' is free to download the basic version.

A computer whizz youngester got it for me so I'm a bit vague about the details.....

I use Irfanview for minor manipulation/modifcation of my photos - very useful for changing size - it is a free download

Download the program first and then the addons

I use microsoft word to arrange multi photos on a single page for printing

Hello Annpa,

You can do something like it in Irfanview. I couldn’t do without Irfanview for some things but it’s a bit basic for others. This method probably works out tidier if you put the landscape and the portrait oriented photos on separate pages.

Open up one of your photos in Irfanview and click on the thumbnail button on the toolbar so as to display the thumbnail window and the folder tree. Select the photo thumbnails you want to print by holding down ctrl key as you click. In this example you might select eight landscapes per page or maybe 6 or 9 portraits per page.

On the thumbnail window click the file menu and select “create contact sheet from selected”. Set the sheet dimensions to say about 2000x3000 (so you have plenty of pixels) and say 2 columns x 4 rows (for landscape photos). Untick the Write File Info box. Click Create and a large photo, incorporating all eight, will open in the Ifanview main window and this can be printed or saved. I haven’t tried printing one myself but hopefully the quality would be okay.

I get most of my free software from SnapFiles http://www.snapfiles.com/ but there’s also Tucows, Softpedia and others. On the snapFiles site if you search for PHOTO PRINTING, and tick the freeware box when it appears, you’ll see a number of free programs including Picassa and one called Photoscape which gets very high ratings. I haven’t tried them myself but have just downloaded the Photoscape one to give it a go.

I have got roughly where I want by using ACDSee. a very old version on our old PC (windows ME!!). I wanted family foties to take to my cousin's 80th birthday bash on saturday. Have also managed to printout the tree of my father's side.

I've tried various photo editing things [free trials or with new hardware] but always come back to ACDSee.
