DORWARD FAMILY MYSTERY
Hi, i am seeking info on the Dorward family from Scotland/Manchester, and i am hoing that some one out there can shed some light on a family mystery that we are trying to unravel. I have William Dorward b1853 in Scotland, he married Eliza Hancock in Mancheter 1878. Their daughter Jessie Dorward b1882/3 married a William Dorward also!!! 1898. Could it be possible that they were cousins? as Jessie was registered a Dorward at birth. William and Jessie were living on Dundonald Street in Glasgow around 1898 onwards, where they had many of their children, but at somepoint around 1905+ they moved back down to Manchester. I have yet to find a birh record for William, yet i found a death record of him in Salford Manchester in 1912. If anyone can help me that would be great thanks.

Welcome to TS. A couple of questions -
Does it show William junior's parents names when he married Jessie in 1898?
Who were given as William senior's parents on his death certificate?
Regards,
Annette

After a wee rummage about (and I probably shouldn't stick my neck out without proof) but I think they were cousins.

DORWARD FAMILY MYSTERY
Hi Annette, i dont have parents names for any of my Williams as yet, although i am taking a visit to the records office to get copy of Williams death cert. I am only at the beginings really of my research, and i have only just dscovered that Jessies dad was from Scotland. As far as Jessies grandaughter knows, she knew nothing of having scottish family. There had been something mentioned of her gran (Jessie) as she was a young girl that, Jessie had ran off to Scotland to marry William at the age of 16. My research on them found, they actually married in Salford which is understandable as Jessie lived in the vicinity of Pendleton/Salford. Jessie was pregnant with her first child Annie who was born in Scotland, this anwers that rumour!( being that she was around 14/15 ys old.) regards Tracie.

That fits with the census records. Jessie would have been about 16 when she had her first child William in 1898. Annie was born in 1901.applejack wrote:Hi Annette, i dont have parents names for any of my Williams as yet, although i am taking a visit to the records office to get copy of Williams death cert. DORWARD FAMILY MYSTERY
Thank you very much Annette i think you've hit the nail on the head! your message arrived as i was replying back to you. Jessies son william enlisted in ww1 in 1915 (Somme) and was killed in action in Aug 1916 he had enlisted as a 19y old, but was only 15. Tragic really, he lost his father in 1912 and sometime after this date Jessie was about to marry again, and William did not get along so well with him, this was his main reason for joining. Thanks again Annette, kind regards Tracie
