I have a BIG BRICKWALL!

Post by scotexpat » Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:26 am

I am having trouble locating information about my Husband's Grandmother,I have tried just about every avenue, but maybe some kind member can help me out.
The information I have is as follows:-
Annie Paterson Born 1897 in Edinburgh. Married Alexander Stewart born 1893-1916. Second marriage to William Aitken 1894-1971. Divorced William Aitken in Glasgow July 1947.A co defendant in this divorce was named as John Laurie. Apparently he was much younger than Annie.
This is where the trail ends. It is believed that Annie was living with John Laurie in the west End of Glasgow. It is not known whether she married him.I have tried looking under all surnames for information, I also cannot find a death entry under any of the surnames.
Can anyone suggest any other evenues to explore? I would be very grateful for any assistance,I am at my wit's end with this.

Hi Scotexpat,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]

On Scotland's People there is an ann* paterson, other surname laurie, born 1897, who died in Glasgow City in 1982. Could that be her? Or have you already looked at that one?

All the best,
Sarah

:D My Gosh Sarah, I do believe you have found my Annie,I am so thrilled.
Does the S.P. information give reference to Death certificate numbers so that I may order the certificate and get more of the information I need?
Thank you once again, you have been a great help.

Hi again,
Yes, the numbers should all be there so you can order the cert. I certainly hope it's the right one!

[cheers]

Hi Sarah,me again,"sorry to be a nuisance"
Can I ask you how your search produced the result you achieved? When I type in my search I get a "sorry no matches" message.

Hi!
I sent that last one just before jumping on a plane and changing continents... Here I am again.

I put it down just as above. Did you type in exactly what I put in the above message? Of course, I first started out with a wider search, but eventually narrowed it down to that one. Be sure not to put "Annie"-- it was registered under Ann, I believe, although I put Ann* to cover Ann, Anne and Annie

Completely jetlagged at the moment, but do try again and if it doesn't work I'll try again tomorrow and see what's wrong...

Night

I did the same search as Sarah and got 1 match.

Another way to cross check if it's the right person is to insert her mother's maiden name if you know it.

Annette

Thanks, Annette! I was too out-of-it last night to even do that... I'm in your time zone now :D (well, an hour later anyway)
