I am having trouble finding the death of George Ross who lived in Coupar Angus with his wife Janet and family Harry, Frank and Alice in the late 1800s and early 1900s. George was alive in 1901[census] but had died by 1924 when Janet died[widow at the time] I can't find a match on Scotland's people. Does anyone have access to burials or obits that may help? George was a master Joiner in Coupar Angus from 1870s till early 1900s and a provost in 1903.
I live in Canada so any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan
George Ross, retired joiner, married to Jessie Gray (Jessie is a version of Janet) died 7th January 1920 at Cothall, Couper Angus aged 74, son of Donald Ross, manager of limekilns and Elizabeth Ross m.s. Falconer. The cause of death was Cerebral haemorrhage, cerebral compression, coma and exhaustion and the informant was son F ?(Frank)? Ross. Is this not your man?
I searched for George Ross aged 50+ dying in Couper Angus, Perth or Dundee in case he died in a big hospital between 1903 and 1924 and that was the only result.

Anne, THankyou so much. THat's him!! Are you able to help me with where to look for his burial and gravestone? I'm sure there would be a family grave as Janet died 4 years later and several of their children had died before . Also their daughter Alice died unmarried in Coupar Angus in 1952. not sure about sons Frank and Harry. I really appreciate your help.
Cheers

Hi Jan
To find out where they are buried it would be best to contact Perth and Kinross Council at Blairgowrie Office, 46 Leslie Street, Blairgowrie, PH 10 6AP. The Tay Valley Family History Society has monumental inscriptions for The Abbey Church Couper Angus and you could also contact them but given that yours are fairly recent you may be best to contact the Council first.

Hi Jan
I got the death information from the Scotland's People website, see link at the top of the page. It was not a difficult search and in fact there was only one result.
For an obit, which you may well find if he was a provost at one point, you would need to find out which is the local newspaper. I'm not local to that area so don't really know. However I'm sure that a google would take you to the local paper.

PS It seems as though the local paper may have been the Blairgowrie Advertiser. The Perth Library has an archive. Perhaps of you email them they may take a look for you.
