Morayfield, Beath. Where is it?.....

Post by gen10 » Tue Jul 19, 2005 5:16 pm

My G/Aunt Isabella Beveridge married Joseph Martin on 17 July 1908 at the Manse Beath, Fife. On the marriage certificate Joseph's address is given as MORAYFIELD BEATH. I can't find this place anywhere. Can anyone help me? By the way if you are a descendant of these two please get in touch.

The Beath area of Fife is around Cowdenbeath and Crossgates area .

I'd imagine that Morayfield would simply have been the name of the house.

I've had a look at some older maps of the area but can't see anything too obvious.

Have you looked for Joseph on the 1901 census ? he may well be at the same addres then, that could give you some idea of it's location. His occupation could give a clue too- was he a farm worker or a Doctor or teacher for instance.

A quick 'google' brought up :

John Ness -born 1904 Morayfield, Beath Scotland
died November 9, 1983 Cowdenbeath, Fife Scotland

Has anyone discovered where Morayfield is?
I also have a marriage at Beath Manse in 1908 where the bride's address is given as "Rosebery Terrace, Morayfield".

Best wishes,
Meg

Hi Meg,

See the text below from the header pages of the 1911 census for part of Cowdenbeath. I have then translated my interpretation of that district on to a contemporary map. I can find no trace of Morayfield on any of the old maps I looked at. My feeling is that it refers to part of (or all of?) Cowdenbeath.

Many thanks, Andrew.
That would make sense. Certainly more sense than I could get from googling it endlessly!

Thanks again.
Best wishes,
Meg
