Hi Mary and Jean from Australia

:( :( :(
I have spent most of the day at the computer. The PAF I downloaded from LDS comes up with family data for 'Farren family'. Not quite sure what that means :?: . Anyway I followed the instructions and tried to view GEDCOM with no luck.
Don't laugh  but I have looked thru 595 records for Neil Campbell on the LDS site. I found ONE  :!: :!: :!:
Neil Campbell married Mrs Neil Campbell 1808. Would you girls know how I may be able to find out if it is my Catherine Whitelaw :?:
I hope I am not being too big a pain. but I have appreciated TS help so much. :)
I am trying to stay positive

Well you get full marks for trying!! Ok in order to better assist you through this I've just now downloaded the PAF software from familysearch.com and istalled it on my computer. I then downloaded a gedcom with Sarah CAMPBELL and Robert CAMPBELL records on it...the two births recorded in Girvan albeit the spellings on parents names differ slightly. So yes a gedcom can be imported into the PAF and yes it can be viewed. The only hiccup that you might have encountered is failing to establish a family file in PAF before importing a gedcom. I seemed to have had to open a new file and give it a name (didn't enter any data though) and then import the saved gedcom from my desktop into the PAF and voila...there it was. It's kind of like two steps that then meet in the middle. Download the PAF software (which you have already done) and create a family file name (not sure you've done this yet) then go to familysearch.com and select the IGI records you want to download. I found it simplest to just save this incoming gedcom to my desktop so I could easily find it later. Familyseach will assign it's own name to the file. I then went into the PAF software and asked to import the gedcom file and it happened! My biggest glitch is making my computer know it's ok to download the gedcom in the first place. Same prob I had yesterday...it seems to insist this might not be a good idea and blocks it which has to then be clicked ok.

Does this make any sense at all??????

Don't give up!!

Best wishes
Jean
