Hi AnneH.
Thanks for the welcome.
My maternal grandmother was Annie S. Millar born c1902 and her father was James Millar and mother Jemima Gordon. Her parents were living in Harthill, W. Lothian in 1923 when my grandmothers sister was married.
James her father was a pit foreman at that time.
I've been unable to find any 1901 census or marriage info on James and Jemima or any birth details on my grandmother Annie.
Regards,
Gordie

Have you looked at the birth of Annie Scott MILLER born 1899 Fauldhouse, W. Lothian on SP?

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for the welcome.
My paternal gg grand father was Oliver McAleese ( sometimes McAllice, McAleece, McLeish). He came to W. Lothian, Scotland in the mid 1800's from Ireland, County Antrim I believe, to work in the coal and ironstone pits.My grandfather had the surname McAleece but my Dad and his siblings were all named McLeish but other branches of the family retained the other variations.
Regards,
Gordie

Hi Gordie,
Your last post should have been for Annette M re: Annie Scott Miller.
Unfortunately I can't be of help for now. My Millar's go back to the late 1700's but haven't had much luck beyond the late 1880's. The latest I found is Ann Russel Miller dob 1880, William Miller dob 1881 and James Gardner Miller dob 1882, parents, John Miller and Janet Gardner but whether or not James lived to marry remains to be seen and while I'm sure they'll be somewhere on SP, I keep pulling up the wrong one's...so the Millar's/Miller's are on hold for a while.
Good luck with your search and if I come across anything, I'll let you know.
Regards,
AnneH

Hi AnneH,
I've the same problem with my searches with getting wrong hits. When the copy of the UK 1881 census becomes available at my local library I'll be able to do more thorough search and if I find anything I'll let you know.
