N. Uist McDonalds and McPhails

after checking the first page of the list, I wonder if I'm the only one brave enough (or crazy enough) to tackle McDonalds and McPhails. well, at least I have a place to start.

my great, great grandfather was Allan McDonald, b. abt 1812, N. Uist, to Archibald and Margaret. Allan married Sarah McPhail, daughter of Donald McPhail and Mary McAskill. I do not know if Allan and Sarah's marriage was in N. Uist or around River Dennis in Nova Scotia, though I suspect the latter. I also do not know if their parents came to Nova Scotia.

Allan's family were miners in the New Caledonia, Gowrey and Sidney Mines area of Nova Scotia. however, they mostly lived in Port Morien, Nova Scotia. some of his children were born in River Dennis, at least one in Whycocomagh, I don't know about the rest.

Allan and Sarah's children were, to the best of my knowledge, which is fairly shaky;

Margaret-may have m. Donald MacVicar???
Mary b. 1847 River Dennis (or McPhail's Vale) m. Sandy McAulay
Archie may have settled in Glace Bay and had a family?
Allan died in dock explosion, don't know when or where.
John nothing known of him
Donald Archibald b. 1856 River Dennis killed by rail car aged abt 12
Annie b. 1858 Whycocomagh to Boston, MA USA 1864 m. Charles Wagner
James nothing known of him
Kate nothing known of her.

it's said that there was family in Boston, where Annie lived until about 1896, but I don't know who they were. there may have been family in Chicago, I'm not certain.
Mary remained in Port Morien and raised a family there.
some family members are buried in Black Brook, Nova Scotia.

I have more information on Mary's and Annie's families, but I'd like to know more about them and their siblings.

the McPhails were from Harris. a family note mentions Benbecula, I don't know if they lived there or merely boarded ship there.

I am not sure but I think some of the McPhails in "A history of Inverness County , Nova Scotia " are yours: there's certainly mention of a Sarah McPhail married to Allan McDonald and indicates that her father and 4 of his brothers came to River Dennis in about 1825. There is also mention of McPhails in Boston.

Thank you! yes, that is them. but I did not know it was available to see online, I haven't had access to that book for...about 15 years, it will be good to look through it again, maybe there's something I wasn't aware of at the time.
