I am looking for birth details and ancestors for a Robert Hamilton who married Mary Whiteford (b. Burnside, Beith, Ayrshire 22 Jul 1799, d. 144 George St, Paisley, Renfrewshire 14 Mar 1887) in Beith, Ayrshire on 16 Jan 1818. I understand they had 4 children - Jean, Janet, James and Robert. I think Robert Sr was deceased by 1841 (missing in census).
Thanks, Drew Hayes - Melbourne, Australia

Hello Drew,
I can’t help you find the birth and/or baptism you’re after but this ScotlandsPeople page may give you clues as to the reasons why you may not be able to find it in the OPR records and there are some hints in the links on the left thereof. http://www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk/re ... -oprs.html
For more detail about any specific Parish see the “Scottish Parochial Registers”, 1849. The entry for Beith seems to be suggesting that many births were not recorded.
Beith.—“The earliest volume of the Beith register commences in 1659, and ends in 1758. It is imperfect, and for some years no entries are made; sometimes births, baptisms, and marriages are entered promiscuously. Of late years, the register has been kept with greater accuracy and care, but there are comparatively few births registered.” http://www.google.com.au/books?id=GtgHA ... 2#PPA21,M1
The IGI info for this couple appears to be submissions however there are a number of their children shown in the Beith section of this ayrshireroots page but I’m not sure what the source was for that.

My Grandfather Robert Hamilton
Hi,
Not sure if this will help your search.
My grandfather was Robert Cameron Hamilton.
He was born 1899, Dec 18th.
His parents were Annie Cameron and John Hamilton
The last address I have was 81 Causeyside st. Paisley.
I have that John Hamilton and Annie Cameron were married in 1896.
With the males, many times a child is named after a father or grandparent. The middle name could be the mothers maiden name.
My grandfather came to the United States in his 20's. He married Annie McCallan from Ireland.
I know that my grandfathers birth year is not the same. But if you found some information maybe there is a connection!
Not sure if this will help, but the name caught my eye!
