BIRTH OF MARTH ELLIS BAILLIE about 1844..

Post by robbiej » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:35 am

I am looking for the birth record of Martha Ellis Baillie, born anywhere from 1835-44 in County Tyrone (according to the 1851, 1891 and 1901 census)
Martha was married to Wm Hair b/1846?. Ayr on 17th Feb,1869.
Her age at the time of marriage, was given as 26 yrs. was a sewing machinist, and lived at 21 Robertson Lane Glasgow. ...
Can anyone help with a Birth oif this person please.? :)

Hi RobbieJ
If you have already checked the IGI inline & the BIVRI disks you'd really need to know which church her family attended, as this is earlier that civil registration and so it is church records you would need to look at. If you know where, you can the order up the parish records, if they exist in their catalogue, from your local LDS centre.

Only other hope might be that as she was living in Glasgow that she may have applied for poor relief and more detail may be give as to her place of origin on the application form. These are held at the Mitchell Library, Glasgow - you could try contacting them.

Best wishes

Hi Lesley, No I haven't any disks.
I only have census 1891 and 1901 saying she was born in Ireland (curtesy Sarah...(She is A marvel that woman !)
L D S here in Christchurch seems to be 'up the whop' ! Don't answer their phone, and when I called the other day they were shut ...should have been open !..It is a fair way from me, so not always easy to get to.
I already have on order a couple of films to view..ordered last October !regarding my John Robertson/Margaret More, so goodness knows when I will see them... But I will make a note of it Lesley and WHEN I get hold of them ask about Irish Parish Records... I guess if anyopne has them it could be them.....
Thanks for your effort. Jan

Hi Robbiej,

I checked the BIVRI discs for you and there is no Martha Ellis Baillie born in that time period in Ireland (or anywhere else in the UK). Hopefully you will eventually succeed in getting in touch with your LDS centre and be able to order the film.

Regards,
Anne H
