Jane Hendry Canning Morrison

Post by AnnieMack » Mon Apr 06, 2009 9:30 pm

My great aunt Jane Hendry Canning Morrison was born on 8th Sept 1907 and promptly disappears. I can find no record of her, no death, no marriage, no births of children and not recorded as a witness to any of her siblings marriages. I can't find her leaving the country either.

Any suggestions? I am totally flummoxed!!

Hi Annie,

Have you tried searching for her death using her mother's maiden name?

Regards,
Annette

Hi Annie,
Have you checked all the plain Jane Morrisons on the passenger lists? There is usually the name and address of a close relative left behind in Scotland on the list, but without knowing your Jane's family, I can't tell if any of them are plausible.

Regards,
Sarah

Hi Carol,
I saw that and it seems to be just related to her entry on that day. I guess she applied for naturalization as she entered.
The only one I can see in the 1930 census is a servant in a private family in Buffalo, New York (family of Donald A Campbell, a Stocks and Bonds Broker). Did you find any other likely ones?

Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I haven't seen any others yet. I was just looking for the website for US Naturalizations. Annie should be able to get copies of her great aunt's docuements online. I thought I had the site bookmarked from when I used it a month or so ago, but of course, now I can't find that!

Back to looking!

Annie,

If you want to try to order Jane's naturalization papers, the website is:

http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/

There are about 7 steps to get you through the ordering process. If you get lost, let me know. I wrote them down!

I also have Jane's index card on my desktop, if you don't have Ancestry.

Haven't found her on the 1930 Census. Wonder if she got married?

That would have been quick work! So you don't like the one in Buffalo? She says she came to the U.S. in 1929, so I was leaning towards that one.

Sarah

I can't believe the power of this place at times! I am astounded. Martha Blair is her sister and I have recently been working on her family. You are all amazing.

Thank you so much!!!

Off to add the info and tick another query off my list.
