Hi Fay,

Welcome to TalkingScot. [scotland-flag]

I had a quick look on FMP and the Family Search Pilot but didn't see your Archibald Haldane so far....doesn't mean he isn't there, just that I didn't see him.

If you let us know what research you have already done to find him, it might help others to help you.

Regards,
Anne H

Hi again Fay,

I was just about to post this when I saw your post. You don't need a sub for Ellis Island...but you do for FMP. Are you referring to the Ellis Island passenger list for the 40yr old Archie Haldane, married miner, last residence Broughty Ferry on his way to Denver, Colorado?

He would only be about 2 years out in age and I suppose it's possible a former policeman could have had the gold rush fever and changed his employment to mining. Someone to keep in mind.

Regards,
Anne H

What makes you say he left after 1889?
Was it his marriage, a child's birth or similar?

Have you tried the 1891 census just in case he was still around then?

I can only find his birth on the IGI, no sign of a marriage or any children.
Wilma

Hi Fay,
Goldrush fever indeed (or quartz, in this case!) In 1910 Archie and Isabelle are in Leadville, Lake County, Colorado. He is mining in a quartz mine. Leadville is HIGH and many get altitude sickness just driving up there. My gg grandfather was there in the 1860s--- mining of course.

On the same page is a Janet Haldane, age 64, born in Scotland, who came over in 1890. Archie and family say they came over in 1888.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi again,
Sure enough, they were already there in 1900, just needing a little Soundex to find "Haldene"

By 1920 he has decided to try his hand at farming, and is in Washington State (Thurston County). A man of many talents!

In 1930 Isabel is widowed, still living in Washington state. She is next door to some other Scots, no doubt related somehow.

Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Fay and Welcome to TalkingScot!

The Haldane name has come up here before and may be worth a look.

Click on the blue Search tab in the page header and type in Haldane in the first box and hit return.
