I have been helping my b-i-l to track his tree.He has just paid a visit back to Ballycastle where the Mcauleys lived.
James McAuley & Hannah McNaul married in 1909 in Cambuslang. He had come from Ballycastle to work as a Farm Labourer & she was a Domestic Servant. He 26 & she 20.
One of the witnesses at the wedding was Bridget McNaul(sister, cousin?)Tried looking for a marriage for her but nothing showed up.
James parents are listed as John McAuley & Annie McAllister both sets of parents are not marked as deceased at time of wedding.
I think John & Annie were married in Ballycastle 14/11/1880 Moyle.
They are not coming up on the 1901 Scottish Census so presume both are in Ireland.
I have never ventured into the Irish searchs- where are the best& cheapest places to look? My B-I-L has cousins in Ballycastle who are keen to join in the search -are they a good resource for on the ground research?
Hannah's parents were John McNaul & Helen McNeely but have no idea where in Ireland they hailed from but probably Ballycastle too.
Anybody researching any of these lines? Anybody help as I am a complete novice on the Irish Records.

Hi Joette
We have lists of links but they are not back with us yet.
The family search pilot site has Irish BMD statutory indexes. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html
Some data can also be found on the LDS IGI site. LDS films can be very useful too - quite a lot of Irish data has been filmed.
Also worth a look are sites like Emerald Ancestors and Family History Foundation Online Genealogy Databases for Ireland (but not as reasonable or as useful as SP...
)
http://www.emeraldancestors.com/
http://www.brsgenealogy.com/index.php?&set=yes
and the PRONI site has some good guides. http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
And the Griffiths Valuation can also be useful
http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4 ... h_form.php
1911 census at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
Which Ballycastle was it? I believe there are two; one in North Antrim and another in County Mayo.
Best wishes
Lesley

Yes! There will probably be many records at PRONI and at other archives and depositories which they can be sent off to!!My B-I-L has cousins in Ballycastle who are keen to join in the search -are they a good resource for on the ground research?

Thanks for that Lesley I have found them in Ireland on the 1911 Census -all the Grandparents & Great-Grandparents.The Grandparents lived in the same house from 1910 until the 1950's.
It's Country Antrim.I will tell Jim to get his cousin on board.
