anyone from Killymard?

Post by winger » Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:38 am

This is a complete long shot, but I thought it was worth trying!
I have Daniel Kelly married to Mary McCluskey in Killymard, Co Donegal in 1877. Daniels father is John kelly and Catherine Harvey, Mary's parents are Michael McCluskey and Mary Brislan. Daniel and Mary move to Glasgow in 1878 and Daniel dies in the Forth and Clyde Canal in 1889. I have this family line - what I am hoping is that someone might recognise the family names so I can find some cousins or other family, I find it hard to belive that Daniel and Mary didn't have family in Glasgow when they came over, I know my father visited family in Donegal in the 1920's but I don't know which side Kelly or McCluskey and I would be interested in finding other family - the only other name that might be connext is Carney as I know John (Daniel's father) had a sister who's married name was Carney.
it's worth a try - you never know.
thanks

Hello Winger,

I'm not a relative but I'm probably more Irish than anything else but then isn't everybody.

When you first posted this I seem to remember looking for a newspaper report about the death of a Daniel Kelly in the Forth and Clyde Canal in 1889 but I didn't have any luck. If it was an accident and you know the exact date of death and you don't have a newspaper report I'll have another look if you like.

All the best,
Alan

hi thanks for taking the time to help -
Daniel kelly was my G.Grandfather who drowned in the forth and clyde canal at Mid-Wharf on 14dec1889 and was buried 9th Jan 1890. There is an extensive poorlaw record submitted by his widow giving more information on the circumstances surrounding the death but I have never located any newspaper giving information on the death -although he died on the 14th of dec his body wasn't found until the 29thdec - so maybe it was newsworthy! if you could find a newspaper citation for his death it would be really nice!
Daniel Kelly was born in Killymard in Donegal and his parents were John Kelly and Catherine Harvey - unfortunatly I have not been able to find anything in the irish records that would help me to move further back - I was wondering if Daniel had any siblings in Scotland - he migrated here with his wife Mary mcCluskey around 1878 and settled in Milton/Maryhill area.
once again thank you for your time
