Searching for McEvoy brothers, originally from Co.Down N.Ire

Post by OHiggins » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:48 am

Peter (Wm) McEvoy (b. 1803) married Catherine (Art) McEvoy in Leitrim, Co.Down on the 12th Aug 1852 & they had at least 7 children - 2 sons John (b.1857) & Felix (b.1864) went to Scotland.
The 1891 Scottish Census shows John aged 32, is working as a railway porter and is living with his Irish wife Elizabeth in No.9 Eglinton Place, Govan, Glasgow. They have 3 sons who had all been born in Stewarton Parish, Ayrshire - Peter aged 6, Thomas Joseph aged 4 & John aged 2. John's brother Felix McEvoy aged 24, is also living with them & is workingas a Pawnbroker's Salesman.
The 1901 Scottish Census shows John & his family are now living in No.65 Dale Street, Govan, Glasgow & John is now a Grocer's Assistant. He now has 4 sons; Peter aged 16 an Apprentice Engineer, Thomas J aged 14 an Apprentice House Painter, & scholars John aged 12 & James aged 6.
The 1901 Scottish Census shows Felix is married to Glaswegian born Clara & they have 2 children; Clara aged 3 & George aged 1. Felix is working as a Railway Checker & is living in No.12 Grace Dro.... Govan, Glasgow.
Both brothers were still alive in 1903 & attended their brother Arthur's funeral in Ireland. Another brother became a Priest, Father Peter and when he died in 1933 he left £20 for his brother John - I presume as Felix was not mentioned he may have died already.
Any information regarding this McEvoy line would be very much appreciated - My great grandfather James was the brother of John & Felix.

The Scottish records are easily searched at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and running a "free" search for a death of Felix M*voy between 1901 and 1933 produces just one hit.

Going further and purchasing the minimum amount of SP credits(30) and then expending one credit to view the search result and 5 to view the image and another 2 to view the RCE will give you all the particulars of his death. As you suspected it is indeed your Felix. You'll still have 22 credits left for more searching and viewing!!

Best wishes
Jean
