Searching for death information on Mary McGilvray. Married 1st husband Archiebald Leckie in England. Lived in Scotland had 4 children. Married in 1870 a Joseph Miller - found on 1871 census living in Glasgow with Joseph and her children. After that seems to have disappeared into thin air. Jospeh Miller died in 1897 in Glasgow but Mary not mentioned on his death certificate.
Finishing up a family tree but stuck on what happened to Mary. Have searched Scotland 's People and various other sites (using various McGilvray spellings) but with no luck. Any help much appreciated as I would like to close this tree down.
Thank you.

Re: Mary McGilvray
Hello Eiggam,
Is this your Joseph in the Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, December 28, 1897? If so it looks like someone cared enough about him to pay for a death notice.
MILLER.—At Old Man’s Home, Rottenrow, Glasgow, Joseph Miller, late 42d Royal Highlanders.
Probably no connection to the above but there’s a fellow by the name of Joseph Miller described as aged 56, a labourer, but no mention of being married, who threw his landlord out of a 3rd storey window at Moodie’s Court, 31 Argyll Street. He was sentenced in May 1880 to ten years’ penal servitude.
No news re Mary,
Alan

Hi Alan - yes this is my Joseph Miller's death notice in the Glasgow Herald. Thanks for this - much appreciated.
As you say someone cared about him - all I have to do now is to find out whom.
The other article is not related to the above.
Again, thanks your help.

Just a wee query. If Mary was not mentioned on Joseph's death entry - how do you know this is her husband?

Re: Mary McGilvray
Hi Annette - I have a copy of her marriage licence to him in 1870. It is the same Joseph Miller as his parents names on his marriage licence to Mary correspond to his parents names on his death certificate - as well as his job description. Also on his death certificate it does state he is a widower but only gives the name of his 1st wife who was an Ann Watson whom he married in 1856. She died in 1869. I checked out this marriage as well and again his parents names correspond to all the documents I have. I also find it strange that Mary is not mentioned on his death certificate as 2nd wife. My mystery is finding out what happened to Mary McGilvray. She seems to have vanished into thin air. The more I search the more mysterious it seems to get!!

Re: Mary McGilvray
Hi Eiggam
A possible answer to your question about why Mary's name is not recorded. If his death was registered by one his children from his first marriage they perhaps were not happy about him re-marrying and conveniently forgot his second marriage.
Just a thought.
