...among other vital and esteemed professions of the working class! I am pursuing a one-name study of the surname DRYBURGH, and various alternatives (DRYBROUGH, DRYBOROUGH, et al). If you have a DRYBURGH or two in your lineage, please participate in my project by visiting www.dryburgh.us , a personal, non-commercial website devoted to compiling the most extensive database possible for this surname. As of 12 Aug 05 there are over 5,000 entries of DRYBURGHs, their spouses, and descendants, from the 1500's to the present day. I have limited information on the Nicol family, so this is all I can share at the moment.

My ggg grandmother was Elizabeth Morning-Ms. Nicol b. abt 1833 Ireland
d. 28 Dec. 1903. Husband was John Morning and her parents were
James Nicol & Mary Campbell.

Elizabeth lived in the Renfrewshire area from at least 1842-1903. Wish I could be more help, but I've been busy with the Morning-Dixon line.

i noticed you posting just as i was about to call time on my searches for today and couldn't resist having a look and my family are on your site or at least my 3xg grandfather is William Chalmers .
this is a bit of a complicated story but here goes ......
I have in my tree an Elizabeth Chalmers who's father was a William Chalmers .William married to Elizabeth Drysburgh in 1836 and had the following children Janet 1839 John Dryburgh Chalmers 1841 Elizabeth Miller Chalmers 1846 .In 1847 he married a Janet Sinclair (all in Leith).

when "my" Elizabeth married Samuel Oliver her mother was recorded as a Janet Fletcher this was in 1871 but in poor relief records for her husband it say's that her mother was a Janet Sinclair and on her death cert it say's that her mothers maiden name was Drysburgh.
Looking at your records i hope that if i (with lot's of help that i have been given already & on going)get to the bottom of the mystery of my Elizabeth Chalmers that her mum does turn out to be Elizabeth Drysburgh.
But thanks to your amazing site i now know who Williams parents where
Carstairs chalmers & Catherine Turner who i will try to investigate further
