Recording Family Tree

Post by sandal1 » Sun Jan 24, 2010 1:14 am

Hi there
This may sound a silly question but has anyone any advice on how to actually record all my ancestors details in a family tree layout in a paper copy.I have done it in a software program but when I printed it out on normal A4 paper it obviously has to be all joined together and also the print detail on each page is quite small. Not very satisfactory - does anyone know if there is commercially printed blank family tree stationery available? I have searched online but no luck - we don't live near a capital city (3-4 hours away) so can't do a physical search and there is nothing available locally.

Many thanks

Hello
I used to get my blank charts at a survival shop the Mormans ran down the street. It was huge when you unfolded it. But now we don't have to do anything by hand.
Anyhow, I did a search and found a lady who has put up some PDFs we can down load of various blank charts. Then you could take them to a copy shop and have
them blown up to whatever size you need. Our copy shop has huge rolls of banner paper, and for something 6 ft by 10 ft in black and white its only 12 us dollars or
so. (I used to use it for tracing murals when a projector didn't suit).
http://www.genealogysearch.org/free/forms.html Its this site, since the charts are free, I think its okay to post it here.

Best luck!

Thanks Cathy - that's a great idea. We don't have a copy shop here but can do when I'm next in Brisbane(Aus.)

Hi Sanadal1: I just use the organization chart in Word for my direct line ancestors. Me at the top then parents underneath, etc. down as far as I can trace. When I find their other children (aunts/uncles, etc.) I just add "See chart 2" in the parents' box and list all their children/grandchildren on the new chart. When it gets too busy (because of large number of kids), I add another "see chart so and so" and keep them all in plastic sleeves in a binder. It works great for me. So far I have eight charts. I think trying to get over 350 people (in my case) would be unmanageable all one large sheet. Hope this helps.

Ina,

I certainly thank you for that link. Have been wondering where to find such an item for quite a while; just didn't have the sense to ask.
