Just joined this forum; not sure if this the correct way to add a comment, but I'll try.
I read a comment about the family name Leckie and their connection to the Maxwell's of Merksworth. Janet Leckie was James Maxell's second wife. He was first married to Margaret Maitland about 1702; she died about 1712.
I am trying to confirm the daughter, Janet Maxwell was actually from that union. I cannot find any record of it.
I wondered what else it said on the inscription in Paisley Abbey.
Janet Maxwell married James Storie c1728 from a long line of prominent Stories in Paisley.
I would be grateful if anyone could help to find information or tell me where to get it.
Regards,
Bill

Hi Bill and a warm welcome to TalkingScot!
http://www.mapquest.co.uk/mq/maps/mapAd ... merksworth shows the location of Merksworth.
From the IGI I've pulled these extracted records http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/ ... search.asp
JANET MAXWELL
Christening: 27 JAN 1706 Cathcart, Renfrew, Scotland
Parents:
Father: JAMES MAXWELL
Mother: JANET ANDERSON
JANET MAXWELL Marriages:
Spouse: JAMES CORRIE 23 JAN 1723 Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland
Spouse: JAMES MATTHIE 29 NOV 1734 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Spouse: JAMES MATHIE 08 NOV 1734 Eastwood, Renfrew, Scotland
Spouse: JAMES JOHNSTOUN 11 OCT 1734 Newton, Midlothian, Scotland
James Maxwell Marriages
Spouse: MARGARET MAITLAND 20 JAN 1709 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
There was only 1 record for Janet Maxwell born 1702 to James Maxwell and Margaret Lillies?
Have you checked ScotlandsPeople? http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Sometimes things get muddled going that far back because of accents, illiteracy or poor record keeping. Might Storie actually have been Corrie?

Hello Bill,
I suspect you were trying to add a comment to this thread viewtopic.php?f=54&t=14358&hilit=maxwell and were asking for the additional MI information about the Maxwell family as mentioned by Russell on 19th October.
“M.I. "In memory of Jas Maxwell, esq of Merksworth, August 1757 age 73. his widow Janet (father John Leckie esq of Croy Leckie) Dec 1775 age 87........" There is more but it relates to the Maxwell family.”
All the best,
Alan
