Census Found on Ancestry, can not find record on SP

Hello,

My George Fender shows up in the 1891 Census on Ancestry as George "Fonder" however when I went to find the record on SP to get the actual census, my search is not finding him as Fender or Fonder. I have tried searching for him and his wife Jane. Address 69 N Wellington Street. Unfortunately I can't search for the particulars I am looking at on my print out or I could probably find this record.

Suggestions or help?

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago, I found my 2xGreat Granddad on An....y, yet went to look on SP for the full Scottish census-not to be found.
The name was RAE. finally found him on SP as KAY. For once An....y had it right, SP had it wrong.

If you still have access to Ancestry, do the search again and take note of the neighbours details and search again. I've found several that way.

I tried all sorts of spellings but that was not one of them! I did the usual that I find with this name... Bender Dender Tender and so on.

With searches like that it is always worth giving wildcards a go, so Bender Dender Tender would all have been covered with *ender

If you had searched for F*nd*r it would have covered all and any wierd vowel permutations, provided folk got the consonants in the correct order! However, sometimes using wildcards in that kind of combination may return many more results than you could cope with. In this case though, you'd still not have found Feuder without also omitting the letter "n".

Hello Sharon,

There’s a George Fender from Dundee mentioned in 19C British Library Newspapers and in Parliamentary Papers in 1880 in connection with the Tay Bridge disaster. He was then employed by the Wallace Foundry, Dundee. He had worked at the Tay Bridge Foundry at Wormit and was interviewed at length by the Inquiry into the 1879 collapse. He was described as an iron turner and a foreman.

I will look at this. My George came from a line of Georges so the first on the tree could be a possibility though on the 1881 census he is listed at a machine fitter. The two prior were ship masters.

I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read and post to my inquiry, I just appreciate it all so much! I find so much satisfaction researching my Scottish side of my family tree.
