Post by scottishbabe30 » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:14 am

i have a marriage cert for Frederick Augustas Davis (24) he was a cinema manager, address 19 Union Grove,Aberdeen his father was Snowdon Davis he was a boilermaker(jouineryman)his mother Margaret (nee Finley) was deceased.he married Jeanie Mackie Greig at st John's church on 7/8/1918 he was my great grandfather my grandfather Edward Henry Davis got married in 1942, Frederick Davis was deceased(states on marrige cert).I then found a copy of a death certificate for Frederick Augustas Davis died 2/11/1944 cinema manager age 51 death was registerd by C.V Davis widow of the deceased, address Cliffe Rd Barton on Sea,Southampton on the 4/11/1944...Im I right in thinking it's the same Frederick Davis? if he didn't die until 1944, why on my grandfathers marriage cert in 1942 is he already deceased..and who is C.V.Davis ..how would i go about checking up this information i would be grateful for help or advice as where to start

Hello Hellen
I don't think this is uncommon.
My gr grandfather left his family in the 1920s and there after he was "deceased" as far as they were concerned. My gr grandmother was a "widow" when she died in 1946 but her husband living in England and died in 1961.
Fredrick died in Southampton so it's worth a look to see if he married (or re-married) there. You could take a visit to the Mitchell when it re-opens and look through the English marriage records (select the most likely dates), make a note of all Fredricks Davis and write down the details including the GRO numbers.
You may find a record that stands out and worth spending £7 on for the certificate (Fredrick A, or Augustas).
The downside is that you don't have C.V Davis's maiden name to cross-check on the register and Fredrick Davis is likely to be a common name in England.
best luck
researching
McIntyre, Menzies, Cowley, Pearson, Copland, McCammond, Forbes, Edgar etc. in Scotland
Skinner in Northumberland
