Hi Trish

I don't use the Java viewer, so cannot really advise on "why today?", though the only thing that springs to mind is that there has maybe been an updated viewer made available and so you are being asked to update, or if you have recently switched over to Firefox, then perhaps you have not yet downloaded and installed the java plugin. Does "Firefox installing" mean you were currently in the progress of installing Firefox as you wrote the post? Or did you mena that you were installing the java plugin for Fiefox and it has installed and is not working?

Why not change your preferences to Direct Download and in that way the image is downloaded to your own PC or you can download to a memory stick if you are elsewhere (work, local library etc), and view the image in a image program of your choice?

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks for the reply Lesley.

I have been using Firefox for months, and yes it was Firefox trying to install. I could use direct download and do it that way.
Not very computer savvy I'm afraid, so memory sticks don't mean a thing to me, I wish they did, maybe one day I will get my head around all the techno stuff.

Thanks-Trish :D

Hello Trish,

You may know a memory stick by another name. It has many: Memory Stick, Thumb Drive, USB Drive, Flash Drive, Jump Drive, USB Key, Pin Drive and probably others.

They are very cheap, you can buy them just about anywhere, and they’re about the most useful things since sliced bread as far as computers are concerned. They even have them on the shelves of Woolworths Supermarkets where I do my grocery shopping.

You probably know all this backwards but here’s a short tutorial. http://www.ehow.com/way_5158775_usb-fla ... orial.html

If you don’t already have one buy one tomorrow, plug it into your computer, and have a play around with some unimportant files until you’re comfortable with how it works.

All the best,
Alan

Thanks Alan

Have read the tutorial, sounds easy enough even for me, our local Aldi store have one on special this week for $17.95 2gb, is that a good buy ? if so will get one.

Thanks-Trish :D

Hello Trish,

The prices of those things are changing all the time (usually downwards for a given capacity) and there’s a fair variation between brands so it’s a bit hard to keep track of them. I’ve accumulated about five over the years ranging from 256MB to 8 GB.

It looks like the Medion on sale at Aldi’s for $17.99 from 18th March is actually an 8GB with a 12 month guarantee. That sounds pretty good to me. http://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/aldi- ... gotopage=3

All the best,
Alan
