Sorry Catriona :(

I've only got Slamannan and Airth to hand, and they don't have an Allan Roberts.

They are the Journal of the Falkirk Local History Society, they have been various graveyards in the area. I can't remember if Muiravonside has been done or not. I get them out of the local library every now and again to see if they shed any further light on my lot !!

The Falkirk Library do have [ I discovered on a fleeting visit o the reference floor] books of mortcloth records for the areas around. I'm just itching to get my hands on them :D but until I can get 'rid' of a noisy 4 year old I'll have to possess myself of a little patience.
But I'll try and give you all advance notice if I can check anything for anyone.
Wilma

Hi Wilma,

Can I ask you to consult your MI books? I am looking for James Graham, who was last known of at the time of the 1851 census, but marked as a widow on the 1871 census. His widow's death certificate (Helen Graham, ms. Robertson, d 1874, age 88 (so the DC says, but none of the ages on the various documents can agree on her birth year). His wife was a widow by the 1871 census. I've not looked for them on the 1861 census yet. They seem to have stayed all there married life in Polmont, and may have been born in Polmont or more probably in Muiravonside, depending which documents you believe. In 1841, James (50) and Helen (48). In 1851 James (67), Helen (55). In 1871 Helen (80). In 1874 Helen (88). So far I have not found his death on SP, which points the finger at a death in the 1851 to 1854 period, but I have not proven that.

Her parents are listed as George Robertson and Charlotte Hardie. Their 1786 marriage in Muiravonside is on the IGI, extracted from Muiravonside OPRs. She is listed as Charlotte Hardie or Rae. So far I have noot found any information concerning surname Rae. I am assuming Hardie is her maiden surname, although I accept that is not yet proven. Their children are listed on the IGI, but as LDS submissions with conflicting dates.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

PS While I was writing this request you were answering Catriona, so I see you may not have this information at home.

Sorry Andrew :( .

I will do my best to warn you if I manage to get some peace at the library!

My husband keeps telling me to actually buy the FLHS journals instead of raiding the library every so often - perhaps I should drop some hints for my birthday?

Hi Catriona
Noticed your question regarding MIs for Allan Roberts. I have a copy of a book that has the inscriptions for Muiravonside. Unfortunately there is no Allan ........only a Margaret Roberts listed, or poss a James Robert [no s] Is it poss he could have been buried at Polmont or Grandsable instead??? I dont have the Polmont version of the book and I dont know that any has ever been done for Grandsable.

Hi Andrew
I saw your post, and I happen to have the book of MIs for Muiravonside at the moment. Was interested in your mention of Charlotte Hardie. I have Hardie as a main line, and I am sure I have come across Charlottes name aswell. I have loads of photos from both Polmont and Muiravonside, but no Charlotte. In the book there are 4 Hardies listed, including one stating only Mrs Hardie of Boxton, no charlottes though. There are 5 Grahams, and again no James. There is one for a J Graham, but it is J & A so I assume this is not it either [though if you want the transcript let me know]. Only one Helen Robertson, but she is the wife of a Robert Bowie......... Sorry its not more postive, but perhaps it means you can rule out Muiravonside?? Polmont, Grandsable and perhaps Slamanan are the next nearest that I can think of, and surprisingly I have sometimes seen Muiravonside families in Bathgate. Sorry, Linlithgow maybe another poss, but more remotely!

Hi Lainey,

Thanks for looking these people up. No results, but that's not unusual in this genealogy game.

I have two other branches (Downs and Cruickshanks) with members buried in Slamannan Churchyard. Wilma looked them up for me some time ago, and I have been there since and seen the headstones.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew
Did your Downs marry Hardies? Just as soon as you mention that name something clicked! I have a couple of loose connections to Downs and so bits of info, a few from Slamanan, and one or 2 Muiravonside

hi Anne
I wonder if I could be a wee bit cheeky  In that book, is there an inscription for an Elizabeth Hardie married to John Spence? I have looked at Polmont alot of times but could just be missing it. I think johns death was about 1845 and Elizabeth about the same. They def lived in the Polmont areas and I was given these dates, but need a wee bit more proof!
Many thanks regardless
