Since before Christmas I have been unable to run BBC iplayer. Eventually I paid a great deal of money to a chap who sorted a minor problem, installed the most recent version of Firefox (while assuring me that he thought IE was the best), found that iplayer still would not run and left assuring me that he would "ask around" and then come back and sort it out. I forked out the money (what a wimp) and despite phoning him several times he still has not found out what to do apparently. Needless to say I now find that "fixing" computers is more or less a hobby and not a necessary source of income. I should add that iplayer won't run on IE either.
Yesterday I was having trouble with Google maps as well and don't know if that could be associated too.
Anyone out there with any ideas that a technophobe just might be able to follow? Here's the problem: When I try to run iplayer this message comes up -
ASSERT in LSP
firefox.exe
Assert in LSP
g_socket_data.Lookup(s) = = O (sic)
capture\lsp\nolsp\wsp_patches.cpp:1313
Abort Retry Ignore
When I try to get rid of that notice and abandon the iplayer attempt, the whole thing just jams up and the only way to exit is by turning my laptop off (ctrl/alt/del won't work) Even when I switch off and then on again the bally sign comes up and I have to fiddle about again to get rid of it. I am afraid I am going to damage my laptop but every so often I have another go because I think that the good fairy might have come in the night and sorted it
Any help would be SO welcome.
Regards
Lorna
