Kincardine Robertsons

Post by BayStateScot » Sun May 02, 2010 12:32 am

Hello everyone!
My name is Richard and I am searching for my Robertson family from Laurencekirk and Stonehaven.
John Robertson married Elizabeth Patterson; September 1809 in Laurencekirk
They had:
CHARLES ROBERTSON, my great x 3 grandfather, born in Laurencekirk, Nov 5, 1809: died June 18, 1893 Stonehaven...Combination Poorhouse.
He married ANN FALCONER. She was from Fetteresso and died June 20, 1893 Stonehaven...Combination Poorhouse.
CHARLES and ANN had at least 6 sons:
1.Allan Robertson, born 1837 Kincardineshire. He was an apprentice candle maker in Aberdeen in 1851, where the family lived at 2 Bangies Brae, Old Machar, Aberdeen.

2.James Robertson, born 1839 Kincardineshire.

3.CHARLES ROBERTSON, my great great grandfather, born in Stonehaven 1842. He married ELIZABETH FULLERTON ....June 1864 Summerfield House, South Leith Parish, South Leith.

4.John Robertson, born 1846 Aberdeen. Died Jan 1898 Stonehaven. He was a Chelsea Pensioner, don't know where he served or what rank he was. He married Helen Gaiter. They had a daughter, Annie Robertson (1867-died July 1898). She married William Leiper and they had Charles William Leiper, Helen Leiper and Robert Leiper (he died in infancy).

5.Thomas Robertson, born 1848 in Aberdeen.

6.David Robertson, born 1850 in Aberdeen.

I don't know anything about my great great granduncles and I hope that there may be other descendants out there. I can't get any further than John Robertson and Elizabeth Patterson. Besides my great great great grandfather they also had:
1. Allan Gray Robertson, born in Laurencekirk March 1827
2. Betty Emslie Robertson, born in Laurencekirk 1823 , I think.

Anyone have some info? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Richard

Hi Richard:

There certainly are a lot of Robertsons in that area. Have you checked the International Genealogical Index (IGI) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true

Born to John Robertson and Elizabeth Paterson (Only one 't')
1. CHARLES ROBERTSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 05 NOV 1809
2. CHARLES ROBERTSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 25 NOV 1809 Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland
3. BETTY EMSLIE ROBERTSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 24 AUG 1823 Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland
4. ALLAN GRAY ROBERTSON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 17 MAR 1820 Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland

Extracted Record
Allan Gray Robertson
17 MAR 1820 Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland
Father: JOHN ROBERTSON Family
Mother: ELIZ. PATERSON

ALLAN ROBERTSON
Birth: 09 MAR 1870 Laurencekirk, Kincardine, Scotland
Parents:
Father: DAVID ROBERTSON Family
Mother: JANE RANKIN

There are many, many more Robertsons, with many Charles Robertsons married to Ann, but was unable to find one married to Ann Falconer. Perhaps if you look at those, there may be a surname that you recognize, that may be of help.

Have you checked ScotlandsPeople online? I don't see a marriage record for Charles and Ann Falconer between 1830-40. There are 3 marriages between Charles Robertson and a woman named Ann 1835-37, but none of those in Kincardine.

Sorry, but this may have created more questions.

Hi Frances, thank you for searching the OPR. I did find the same people but finding the marriage of Charles and Ann has proved impossible so far. Others have suggested that maybe they joined the Free Church. That might be unlikely as Charles was getting poor relief from Laurencekirk for almost 40 years from 1855. I think that Ann Falconer was from Glenbervie and her father was George Falconer, mother Jean Colvin. I think. There are so many Robertsons for sure! I don't know why I can't find anything on these guys. It's a big challenge! Thanks so much Frances, I really, really appreciate it!
