Hi,
I'm trying to find an ancestor named William Montgomery Cameron, who was married to Sarah nee Cameron.
He was an engine fitter, and had a son named Alexander Cameron, circa 1870. According to Alex's wedding cert in 1898 William was deceased, so I've tried to find his death on sp without luck. I can't find Alex's birth, or his parent's marriage either apart from an entry for 22nd Jan 1858 in Clyde. William is stated as a Draper, who came from Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester. Is it the same William ?
Why can't I find him ?
Any ideas

????
Regards,
Daryl

Hi Daryl,
All questions and no answers.
Where was Alexander married in 1898? Is he in the same area in the 1901 census? If so, where does the census say that he was born?
Did you find William (and Sarah?) in any of the censuses? If so, where?
All the best,
AndrewP

Hello Daryl,
Hopefully you'll get back with answers for Andrew but meanwhile I'm pretty sure this is the couple who married in 1858 at Clyde from the 1881 census.
The children's birthplaces match with a parent search at the IGI -
William Cameron 44 born Glasgow Comm Agent
Sarah Cameron 40 born Glasgow
John Cameron 21
Archibald Cameron 20
Duncan Cameron 18
William Cameron 16
Annie Cameron 13
Margaret Cameron 10
Donald M Cameron 8
Hugh Cameron 6
Regards,
Annette

A William Cameron, commission agent, shows up in the death certificates of 1898, as husband of Sarah Thomson.

(registered by his brother). So, where does that leave us?
A
possible death for Sarah Cameron (ms Thomson) is in 1922, but the late husband is a grocer, registered by daughter Sarah.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Annette,
Many thanks for finding those details regarding William. It's odd that Alexander isn't mentioned though ?
I've had a look at the 1901 census for William & Alexander but they don't appear anywhere. William does show up on the 1861 english census tho' with his wife Sarah and 2 sons, John & Archibald in Manchester.
Thanks again,
Regards,
Daryl

Hi Andrew,
Alexander was married in McKinlay St. in the Gorbals Glasgow. I've had a look for Alexander in the 1901 census without success.
I found Alex's parents William & Sarah in the 1861 census in Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester, where William is stated as being a Draper. On Alex's marriage cert. he's an Engine Fitter

I'm slightly confused !
Regards,
Daryl

Hi Daryl,
I don't think the couple who married at Clyde are your family.
Who did Alexander marry in 1898 and what was his occupation? I know you said he married at McKinlay Street but what was his address?

Annette

Hi Annette,
Alexander married Margaret McWilliam Stewart on 3rd June 1898 at 35 McKinlay St, Gorbals. The cert. states him as a Wine Storeman. His usual address was 40 Cook St, Glasgow.

Daryl
