Menzies of Balornock, Lanark, Glasgow

Post by Heidihei » Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:36 am

I have been lucky to find a bit of a story on my GGGrandfather Andrew Menzies on a page on 100 Glasgow men. My late uncle also give me a copy he had done on the Menzies of Balornock back to early 1700. I am looking for more info on the Menzies, their wifes and the family's they came from, the children and where did all their decendens go to? Not asking for mutch am I.
Andrew Menzies married Mary Buchanan [dougther of David Buchanan a farmer of East Muckeroft near Chryston - this bit i found on that web page] - Andrew parents was William [b 1790) and Janet nee Davidson from the parrish of Caddie - I think they may have farmed Balornock and had 6 children.
William's father was Andrew and mother Cathrine nee Lindsay [c 1764] - 2 children found in records. Andrew's parents was William and Margaret nee Clarkson - 5 children. William parents was Andrew [[surprise] [b1685] and Katherin Tod [Todd] - 7 children. Looking for any one with intrest in this family :D
Thanks

Hello Heidihei,

Apart from all the online information about Andrew Menzies you will probably find additional material in the 19th Century British Newspapers, in particular the Glasgow Herald, available here http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/.

For example, his obituary, in the GH on 22, April, 1873, mentions that he was survived by his aged mother, one brother and two sisters, and by eight children. You’ll also find references to the East (or Easter) Muckeroft farm.

There are probably lots of additional clues in these newspapers that could aid your research.

If you get stuck with any particular line of inquiry please don't hesitate to ask for help.

All the best,
Alan
