Greetings from NZ.
A maternal cousin, upon finding out that I keep an eye on TS discussions, has emailed me the following. Over the years she has researched the Dougherty and Livingston connections, mainly in Ireland before emigration, but also includes Montrose connections.

Hi Alan,
In your wanderings among the Talking Scots there are a couple of missing Scottish links in your grand mother's family tree. (W. LIVINGSTON, nee DOUGHERTY.)
Your gt-gt-grandfather Henry Dougherty of Coolkeeragh in the parish of Glendermott, Londonderry is purported to have married a Scotswoman, possibly a Colhoun (Irish spelling of Colquhoun).
Henry who died 5 Oct 1877 aged 90 was survived by his wife, but her name was not given in his will. Your gt-grandfather Wm John Dougherty named his oldest daughter Catherine Colhoun Dougherty so it is possible she was named after her paternal grandmother (the next daughter Rebecca was named after her maternal grandmother). Wm John also had a sister called Catherine and there was an Andrew Colhoun as witness at Wm John's marriage in 1873.
Another of Wm John's sisters, Martha Dougherty, born 1838 and emigrated to USA in 1851, was married in 1856 to William Searles. This couple are recorded in the Philadelphia US census up until 1900, and in one of these it shows Martha's mother was born in Scotland.
So all you need to do is find this unnamed Scottish woman who married a Henry Dougherty of Coolkeeragh somewhere in Scotland (possibly) prior to 1835.
The other little mystery you could solve its the crossing of the Livingston's from Scotland to Sligo. Possibly brothers who may have been hatters by trade. One may have been our ancestor Thomas who first appears in the O'Hara (of Sligo) estate records c 1800. ( I would have to look that one up). Where were they before that?
Your cousin, -------------------------
PS. This request I find fascinating because, COLQUHOUN (Scot spelling) pops up in my SHARP research, on the boarders of Renfrew and Lanarkshire, as witnesses in the OPR's. Could be a small world, reunited on the other side of the world, down-under.
