Windows Movie Maker

Post by marilyn morning » Sun Sep 05, 2010 3:23 pm

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried to make a movie, using Windows Movie Maker?

Its taken me a few weeks to figure out all the "technical" aspects of it, but I was finally successful last night and I'm soooooo excited. I took several of the old family photos of my relatives from Scotland, including street signs and old pictures of Houston Square, McDowall Street, etc. Its enough to make one shed a few :( I have hundreds of photo that I need to include, which might break down into more then one video? But, its the way I'm going to document my family photos for future generations.

If anyone is interested in a free download, here are some instructions that I sent to a friend of mine.
Here is a link to Windows movie maker, it is a free download if you don't have it. Just save the file to your desktop and then close all your windows boxes and click on the file to install it.... (always close all your boxes before installing things, it is just better. It works with Vista and windows 7...

So after you have it installed, you add pics first.... then add the music , in between the pics are little boxes where you will choose what shape the pic will form, zoom...heart, squares....etc, just add one in between each pic.... after you play around with the program, you will figure it out.... when you are ready to save it it, click publish , to view on your computer.

Good Luck Helen, you'll be so pleased with the results. It took me several hours to get the hang of it. :P

OK Marilyn! So I have downloaded the site you suggested - Now what?
I cannot see anything there called Moviemaker, or that suggests that I do something with my photographs (politely or otherwise!)
Maybe it's just me needing help!

Hi wee Ann

On the web page Marilyn gave the link to, there is an orange button which says Download now. That version is for Windows Vista or Windows 7. There is also a section furhter down the page giving more info about how to "Import Photos and Videos from your PC"

However, before you do that, check that you do not already have it installed. Many PCs do. If you are running XP, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > and you may find "Windows Movie Maker" there already.

best wishes
Lesley

Thank you for your reply Lesley. I have Windows Seven, so I used the 'Download' button, but now that it is there, I really have no idea what to do!
Not only that, but they keep coming back and asking me to verify my E-mail address, which I have done twice, and this morning they are asking me again.
Am I showing my lack of nous?

Hello Wee Ann,

I haven’t tried the program myself and have no idea what the problem could be. Maybe the email thing is some sort of initialisation process if you haven’t used any of the Windows Live Essentials programs before? It may not be a good idea to give too much information if you have any doubts about the process.

Windows Live Movie Maker is part of Windows Live Essentials and is a Windows Vista & 7 simplified version of the original Windows Movie Maker. Have a look in Start, All Programs, Windows Live. It may already be included in Windows 7?

For the system requirements for Windows Live Movie Maker see the link in small print at the very bottom of the Movie Maker page. If you’re unsure of your current system specifications you could download and install a small program called Belarc Advisor http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Belarc ... elarc.html or

Once you get the program up and running the tutorial videos may be worthwhile watching. There are more on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lYVLPBXpg

Hi Wee Ann,

Here's some links that may help. It took me several attempts to get the pictures lined up correctly. But, first I goggled some help and printed it off, then I worked from those instructions until I got it right. It may take some practice. :)
