Hi Tim
..and welcome to Talking Scot.

It would help a little if you could give us some indication of places where these events occurred, prior to the 1906 marriage in Birmingham. Where in Scotland were this family based? Have you checked sources such as IGI and Scotlands People for more infomation on the events for which you have a lack of detail? What about census records?
So if anyone can fill in dates or supply children details it would be appreciated
you should be able to fill in a good deal of information yourself, if you have not done so already, using the websites at http://www.familysearch.org (best area to use is at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/ ... _form=true )and http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

e.g. on IGI there is a marriage as follows:
  • RICHARD JAMIESON
    Marriages:
    Spouse: JANET ROWAN
Marriage: 19 DEC 1862 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
A parent search reveals the following children:
  • Scotland, British Isles
Father: Richard Jamieson, Mother: Janet Rowan
ROBERT JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 27 MAY 1863 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
JESSIE JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 09 FEB 1865 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
JOHN JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 10 MAY 1867 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
JESSIE JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 13 APR 1868 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
MARY JANE JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 04 OCT 1869 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
(Richard is also listed, born 8 JUN 1861 Carsphairn, Kirkcudbright, Scotland, but with mother's surname as ROAWN, so he does not turn up in the parent search, as above)

Also, if you can tell us where you have checked and where your information to date comes from that will help us to help you.

Best wishes
Lesley

@LesleyB

Many thanks for the IGI information , it is pleasing to see that it confirm the info I have already been able to obtain.

Most of the information have been able to obtain so far comes from the IGI and ScotlandsPeople.

I guess my confusion comes from the extract for Richard Jamiesons Birth entry in the Statutory Records (1861) which shows his mother as being Janet ROAWN, and assuming that Statutory Records tend to be correct took that as the correct maiden name.

I searched ScotlandsPeople to the best of my limited capabilities, and where possible have obtained copies of entries that I have been able to find, but I am sure that with perseverance I will get there!!

@paddyscar

Robert Jamieson and Mary Wallace, you have given 5 children, but from research that I have done, it appears that there may have been a total of 12 children, and as a sort of proof of this both Richard 1806 and Robert 1812 are missing from the list you ave give, so could I assume that you extracted your information from the Census?

Once again many thanks for all your help

Tim

How is her name spelled in the 1862 marriage?
I'm thinking that as it appears to be Rowan on the other births, and on the marriage (though it would be better to have the marriage from "the horse's mouth" so to speak; that is the original marriage entry from SP, rather than the IGI transcript) then that was the more usual spelling. (the statutory records are not always correct...! A lot may depend on what the registrar "thought" he heard....)

Best wishes

Hi Tim:

I just pulled the children's names that surfaced on the IGI when I entered the parent's names as indicated. IGI just has some, not all church records and as a result, the years or the church relevant to a child's birth/christening may not be there. It may also be that some of the children were either not christened, or the church records were missing/lost.

It might be worth you taking out an Ancestry free trial as there are a couple of people researching this family. According to one Jane Josephine Findlay/Jamieson married again to James Mackie in 1910 at Kincardine and a search at SP confirms a marriage with those names. This lady died at Aberdeenshire in 1944.

I'm not quite sure how you've gathered the ancestry of Richard born 1884 who married Evelyn Price at Birmingham if you don't know any other info but here is the Kircudbright family in 1891 -

Richard Jamieson 29 Farmer born Carsphairn
Jeanie Josephine Gordon Jamieson 28 born Aberdeenshire
Richard Jamieson 7 son
Jeanie Josephine Frederick Jamieson 4 daughter
Frederick William Jamieson Under 9 Months son
Jane Laurie 34
Mary Barbour 20
Michael McGuigan 21
Thomas Muir 20

In 1881 Richard senior is living with his aunt and uncle (Andrew Frederick) and 1871 is transcribed as Jamerson at Ancestry and living with his mother and siblings at Carsphairn.

Janet Rowan/Jamieson died in 1916 at Kirkcudbright.
Richard born 1806 is living with his mother in 1861 and there is a death registered in 1863 of a Mary Jamieson /Wallace. It looks like her husband Robert died around 1830 according to a search at SP for a will. I see you know Richard (born 1806) died in 1869 and he also left a will/testement.

Annette

Hello Tim,

Here’s some newspaper stuff that may be useful.

Aberdeen Weekly Journal, Saturday, June 23, 1883
MARRIAGE OF MR RICHARD JAMIESON AND MISS JEANIE JOSEPHINE GORDON FINDLAY.—On Thursday last the marriage of Mr Richard Jamieson of Shiel and Airie, New Galloway, and Miss Jeanie Josephine Gordon, daughter of William Findlay, farmer, Aberdeenshire, and sister of the Rev. P. C. Findlay, B.D., minister of Carsphairn, was celebrated in the manse in the presence of a large company of relatives and guests. Miss Mary Jane Jamieson and Miss Magdalena Ursula Findlay, sisters of the bridegroom and of the bride, were bridesmaids, and the Rev. P. C. Findlay was assisted by the Rev. Pirie Philip, B.D., minister of Kells; the Rev. William Cuthill, minister of Balmaclellan; and the Rev. W. F. Low, B.D., minister of the second charge, Laigh Church, Kilmarnock. The service was brief and appropriate, and the youthful couple left amid the hearty congratulations of their friends and wellwishers. About fifty guests sat down to an excellent dejeuner, which was served in the manse dining-room. The company broke up at midnight, having spent a very pleasant afternoon and evening. The bride's presents were numerous and handsome.

Glasgow Herald, Wednesday, June 20, 1883
JAMIESON—FINDLAY.—At the Manse, Carsphairn, on the 14th inst., by the Rev P. C. Findlay, brother of the bride, assisted by the Rev. W. Cuthill, the Rev. W. F. Lowe, and the Rev. P. Philip, Mr. Richard Jamieson, Shiel, to Jeanie Josephine Gordon Findlay, fourth daughter of Mr. Findlay, Slack, Insch, Aberdeenshire.

In the Glasgow Herald, Saturday, July 23, 1870, and Monday, July 25th, there are articles about a Richard Jamieson, of Carsphairn, who had gone missing the previous December, and whose body had just been found in the River Doon. I’ll let Russell tell the story. http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 39&start=0

All the best,
Alan
