Any information about the McWhinnies of Musselburgh would be appreciated particularly Jean, Hugh and George.

What era are you seeking to find them in? Remember, this website is concerned with the departed, not the living for reasons of their privacy.

All the best,

Have you found them in the 1901 census? The 1911 census should be available next year.

All the best,

Hello Andrew
I very much appreciate your help. Can't seem to locate them in the 1901 census. But I am not really positive of 'Uncle Jock's' real first name. I remember visiting them in Musselburgh as a young lad. I believe their children were Hugh, George and perhaps Dan although something tells me he changed his first name. There could have been a daughter as well.
I am trying to link them to the family of Daniel Wilson, who was my maternal great grandfather, living in Glassiebarns, Craigluscar, Dunfermline, Fife. I believe one of his children married into the MacWhinnie family. I am almost positive that we called her Aunty Jean but Daniel did not have a daughter by that name. However, there was a Jane. ](*,)
The next census should reveal much for me. Do you know when it is expected next year?

Kindest regards
John

Jean and Jane are often interchangeable, so no need to bang your head!

Concerning the 1911 census, Scotland's People has the following:

In line with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, the 1911 census will be available in Spring 2011, once the 100-year closure period has elapsed.

Not sure the exact date of release, but perhaps someone will come along who has a better idea of it.

All the best,
Sarah

The census date was midnight between 2nd and 3rd April 1911. It depends how they interpret the 100 year rule - either at the beginning of 2011 or at the start of April 2011. We are all waiting on this event.

All the best,
