Hello scotthiggy,
What kind of information are you looking for? If you already know the streets, does this mean you already have the census information? Please tell us what you already have, so we can avoid duplicating effort.

All the best,
Sarah

I know the cencus info and births, marriage and deaths info. Was hoping that someone might know what became of the families, or possibly be related to them.
Thanks

This is the area my B-I-L Grandparents & family lived from 1920-1960's.His Aunt has a formidable memory for a ninety year old I will see if Jim is planning on a visit to see her soon & ask if she knew of the family.
May I ask what religion they were? This would make a difference re schools, socialising etc.Sad & glad times have changed.

They were primarily Church of Scotland, but a few of the families did marry into the Catholic Church. Some of the female members of the Hayes family married into Brough (C.O.S) and Collins (R.C) families.
I bet that your B-I-L 's old Aunt would have some great stories to tell!
Many thanks
Scott

Hello Scott,

I wonder if it would be worthwhile adding the head of household and year of birth to each of those address lines, and maybe approximately when they were there. Perhaps it would make it more likely they will jump out at someone Googling.

All the best,
Alan

Hello,

Just happened to spot this post while googling Anthony Street (which no longer exists), as my family (the Porters) lived there. My paternal Grandmother was Sarah Marjory Hayes. Given that she married a man (Charles Brown Porter) who was born in 34 Anthony Street, it would make sense if her family is from the area. Unfortunately I know very little about them. I believe she was one of 13 children, and know she had siblings called Florence, Richard, Leslie, Frederick, Felix, Meg & Gilbert.

Cheers

Scott

Hello Scott
[TS_welcome]
It would be helpful if you could provide information on what if any census returns you have looked at.
Some dates/ages also would give members assistance to see what, if anything is documented.
Do you have your grandmothers birth certificate? That would give a clue to her parents, and you can usually work back from there.
Her marriage certificate is also helpful. :)
I had a quick look on SP and as the marriage was in 1939 the image is not available as yet to view. You would either have to go into GROS to view it, or order it, which is a bit dearer than the online image. They were married in Maryhill.
Not sure if there births would be available either due to cut off dates.

Hi Stewie,

Thanks for your reply (and your welcome). :D

Unfortunately I know virtually nothing about this side of the family (I have my Porter & Glasson sides back to the 1840s). I know my Grandmother's name, and the names of some of her siblings, but not her parents, or any dates.

My dad was born in 1948, and therefore Sarah would have been born circa 1915-1925, so I have not been able to view any census info for her or her family. I did not even know when/where they were married (so thank you for this info). What is the SP you refer to?

She was the youngest of 14. I do know that Nora, the eldest, went to the USA as a priest's housekeeper, and married/had children out there, but I have no idea of names etc.

Hello again Sam
SP is Scotland's People (General Register of Scotland (GROS). You can access the available records there online by registering and buying credits, which are about seven pounds for 30, which last a year. (quite reasonable)
There are also Old Parish Records, censuses up to 1911, birth, deaths and marriages on Statutory Records also. Like most members of TS, I often do a search on the LDS website "Family Search" for a preliminary look to see if lang deid yins pop up.
Also the people on this site are very helpful and will guide others in the right direction where possible.
Just remember the prior to compulsory registration in 1855, folk often didn't register due to the cost or other reasons. So you might not find folk on OPR's, although I haven't done too bad myself.
