Hi everyone
I have been trying for what seems a lifetime to find the birth records of William Biggart and Mary Simpson - my Great Grand Parents. William was the son of William Snr & MaryAnn Bradshaw, both Irish immigrants, and was born in Glasgow in about 1846. Mary was the daughter of John Simpson & Susan Kinnon and was born, again in Glasgow, at roughly the same time.
The origins of Mary's parents is, as yet, unknown. I know that William's parents were married on 19th of March 1841 in Glasgow.
The Census of 1871 ( and subsequent ones ) has William Jnr and Mary with their first born, Maryann and Mary's brother, James at 35 James(?) Street, Calton - and their births are all noted as " Lanark, Glasgow ". So why can't I find an official record of William, Mary or James? I've tried different spellings, expanded the area of search and beaten my head on the desk - all to no avail!!!!
Any ideas, anyone?

Re: William Biggart and Mary Simpson
Hello Malki,
A few questions to clarify: Do both Mary's marriage and death certificates give the same parents' names? How about those of her brother James? Just to make sure that we're looking for the correct parents, since there are quite a few Mary Simpsons about!
It is also possible, that since the birth records are before 1855, they may simply not exist...
Regards,
Sarah
P.S. What were Mary and William's occupations on their marriage cert and what were their parents' occupations?

Hi Sarah,
See Malki's previous post for details -
Malki - something I didn't notice from your previous post (or maybe I did and I've forgotten) - it looks likely Susan Kinnon/Sim(p)son had at least one stay at the City Poorhouse as I'm sure it has to be her as Susan K Simpson , a sewer born Ireland around 1812. She is there in 1871 and 1881.
I know this doesn't help with the births you are looking but thought I'd post it anyway.
Regards,
Annette

Hi Sarah - yes, both Mary's marriage & death certificates have her parents as John Simpson & Susan Kinnon. The only record I have of James is the census where he is living with his sister and her husband William.
On the marriage cert occupations are:-
William - Boatman, Monkland Canal
Mary - Bleachfield worker
and the parents:-
William Biggart - Boatman, deceased
John Simpson - Labourer, deceased

I can't be 100% but having the K in her name and of roughly the same birth year as 1861 makes me think it's her. If you don't have Ancestry to view the census transcription you can view it at SP or the 1881 census here -malki wrote:Hi Annette

Sorry Malki I don't think it's her after all.
I think that lady must be Sarah Kennedy Simpson.
