Hi,
Now on the track of the daughter of Alexander Brown and Catherine Inglis (see previous post)!
Marion Brown married John Finlayson, the banns being proclaimed in the parish of Hamilton in Jan 1825. John was of that parish and Marion of Cambusnethan. By 1841 they are living at Glengowan, in Larkhall with 6 children and remained in Larkhall for the rest of their lives.
John appears to have died after his son John's marriage in 1855 and before another son, William, died in 1860. I can find no record of his death. I have a CD of the MI's in Larkhall cemetery but neither that son or John or indeed his wife Marion d 1882 appear on it. I also have Dalserf Parish Church MI's and they are not there either.
Is there anywhere else they might have been buried or is it just that they don't have a gravestone?
Any thoughts welcome.
Lizzie

Hi Lizzie,
Have you looked at the John Finlayson who died at Larkhall in 1860?
Do not put in an age or birth year when searching as it looks as though his age is unrecorded. If it's him it should also hopefully give the burial info.
regards,
Annette

Re: Finlaysons of Larkhall
Hi Annette,
I think that is the one , thanks. When I went to look on SP I found I had looked at that record many years ago (2006) before I knew very much at all! I guess I must have dismissed it at the time probably because, if this is the one, he did not follow the usual Scottish naming patterns for his children. However, date is within the period I had thought, trade is right, area of Larkhall is right and the informant was his son William. This son died a few months later.
On both their death records it is stated that they are buried in U.P. Churchyard, Larkhall so I'm still wondering where that is. I've googled and not come up with anything so far.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Re: Finlaysons of Larkhall
According to the newspapers etc Rev. John Shearer was the U.P. minister at Larkhall from 1840 until his death on 2 October, 1880, age 65. He died at “Summerhill, Larkhall” Is that a clue as to church location?
A bit about it here http://www.ordination.name/1996-ordination.php

Hi,
Fascinating information and I even found the book mentioned in Annettes snippet but I'm afraid no nearer finding the church.
Thanks anyway.
