Question re. Social Security Death Index

Post by LesleyB » Mon Dec 06, 2010 3:02 pm

Hi all

A recent query here, so no names given here, but if the line :

State (Year) SSN issued: California (1962)

appears in a entry on the Social Security Death Index on Ancestry, might that imply the year the person may have entered California or became a US citizen? It is not the year of death which was over 20yrs after 1962. This person was in Scotland in 1951 but I know did leave, I'm led to believe initially for Canada, then to California.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
The issue place is where the person originally got their social security card, so in the case you are talking about, it would be when the person got a job, even if they were not yet a citizen. Nowadays, children get them at birth, so this is no longer the case.

Sarah
